The Making Of Ceramic Amplifiers

Inspired by Thomas Edison, inventor of the Phonograph, and Emile Berliner, the inventor of the Gramophone, our junior artists are introduced to how sound actually travels and how music is amplified from a vinyl record.

What does this have to do with Ceramics? So we asked them, how can ceramics help with music amplification? Most of our junior artists have their own mobile phones and love to play music with it and they started thinking about how ceramics can amplify their favorite music from their mobile phones. Researching on different designs of amplifiers built using different materials, our junior artists drew out designs that they will like to build. The big question in them was, using ceramics, can it really work? The answer: start drawing out how your desired amplifier looks like and how does it work! Soon, our junior artists have transformed themselves into junior product designers. Sketching out 3D Drawings, adding in dimensions and drawing out how sound actually travels and amplifies from their mobile phone speakers through their product. From the "blueprint" they have created, some worked together with each other to overcome obstacles while some are natural ceramic experts that started building their product out step-by-step.

Taking them 5 to 6 weeks, they have challenged themselves to what they thought was impossible. From sharks, dogs to the traditional designs of gramophone, our junior artists made their first ever product out, using Ceramics of course!

Do you like their mobile phone amplifiers? Let them know by liking and sharing their photos. If you follow us closely, you will probably know that in our art foundation programme, presentation is one of the most important feat to learn about.
